Does every MIT applicant get an interview?

Interviews are not a required part of the MIT application. While we try to offer as many interviews as we can, we have limited availability and may not able to offer interviews to all applicants. If your interview is waived, it will not put you at a disadvantage in the admissions process.

Can you get into MIT without an interview?

Interviews are also a bit different at MIT. Don’t mess this up as last year MIT only admitted 1\% of students who chose not to interview. You must take the ACT or the SAT. You must take a Math Subject Test (Math II as they really don’t count Math I) and a Science Subject Test – Biology, Chemistry or Physics.

How do I know if my MIT interview is waived?

If we are unable to offer you an interview, your interview will be waived, and your application will not be adversely affected. The interview is not a required component of the application, and the admissions committee will be aware that we were unable to offer you an interview.

When should I schedule my MIT interview?

There isn’t a specific deadline for the interview. Students submit their application by November 1 for Early Action or January 5 for Regular Action. After you submit your application, you may be contacted by an Educational Counselor (EC) if there’s one available.

How hard is MIT to get into?

Currently, MIT’s acceptance rate is 4.1\%, which means it only accepts around 4 applicants for every 100 people that apply. A 4.1\% acceptance rate means that MIT is extremely competitive to get into. You’ll need excellent grades, test scores, essays, and letters of recommendation to even be considered.

Does MIT have early decision?

MIT has its own online application, which is available online from mid-August through January 1. The application deadline for Early Action is November 1, and January 1 for Regular Action. Early Action decisions are non-binding, and are announced in mid-December.

Is it necessary to apply to MIT from outside the US?

It is must for every one. But, for an applicant from outside the USA, if there is no alumni in that city, MIT may say interview is waived off. Why do MIT interviews take place virtually?

That’s why, whenever possible, we offer an interview with a member of the MIT Educational Council, a network of over 5,000 MIT graduates around the world who volunteer to meet with applicants in their home area. To ensure everyone’s health and safety, we will hold all interviews virtually for the 2021–22 application.
