AV Preeminent®: The highest level of peer rating. This rating signifies that the lawyer’s peers rank them at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards. Distinguished: An excellent rating for a lawyer with some experience.

What is the Avvo rating?

The Avvo Rating is our effort to evaluate a lawyer’s background based on the information available in an attorney’s Avvo profile. We create the rating using a model that considers information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to information we collect from public sources like state bar associations and lawyer websites.

Why doesn’t my lawyer’s rating appear on Avvo?

For lawyers who have not claimed their profile and have no public record of bar association discipline, we do not display a rating and rather indicate, “This attorney is not active on Avvo.”

What is avavvo and how does it work?

Avvo gives attorneys a ranking that they can’t control unless they want to spend hours padding their profiles with more and more positive information until something raises their scores. It doesn’t give attorneys the ability to have information removed except in instances of obscenity or spam.

How does Avvo rate attorneys based on peer endorsements?

Avvo rates attorneys in part based on peer endorsements given by other lawyers. This would seem to make it relatively easy for attorneys to get their fellow lawyers to endorse them, particularly in large firms, except for one complication. A lawyer has to “claim” his or her own Avvo profile before he can endorse another attorney.
