Can you use a bullet without a gun?

As we see in the above video, accidentally firing a bullet outside of a gun is very unlikely, but not totally impossible. This propels a bullet to hundreds of miles per hour. Without a barrel to contain and focus the force of the explosion, a bullet travels much slower.

Can a bullet fire itself?

If by ignite, you mean discharge, then yes you can. Striking the primer hard enough will set off the powder charge. It will basically blow up though and will not shoot the bullet out of the casing as if it were inside a gun.
