How to practice listening prayer
- Come to God with your request for guidance.
- Wait in silence for God to speak for 10-12 minutes.
- Jot down any Scripture, songs, impressions, or pictures God gives you.
- Share how God spoke to you with your prayer partners and follow God’s will.
How do you know you have the Holy Spirit in you?
One sign that you have received the holy spirit is the presence of the fruit of the Spirit. “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, long suffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Growth takes time, and you can be patient with yourself as you grow in the fruit of the Spirit.
Do you have a hard time hearing God’s voice?
But, as easy as it is for us to speak to Him, the average Christian has a hard time hearing His voice. This is not the way the Lord intended it to be. Learning to clearly distinguish God’s voice is invaluable. Instead of going through life blindly, we can have the wisdom of God guide and protect us.
When I obey God’s voice does he continue to speak to me?
When I am quick to obey God’s voice, when I “hear” Him, then He continues to speak to me. It is not always easy to be obedient to what I hear. Usually, it costs me my own will; I must give up my own desires and opinions, in order to do what the still small voice is telling me to do.
Why can’t I hear the voice of the Lord?
Most people cannot hear the voice of the Lord because they truly don’t believe that God is speaking to them. Maybe they believe they lack the ability, maybe they have false theological barriers to hearing God’s voice, or maybe they just don’t think God would speak to them because they think they are unqualified.
What happens when I listen to God’s voice?
When I listen and obey, then my personal connection with God grows stronger and deeper! Hearing God isn’t a loud voice speaking to me. God’s voice is the internal prompting to the good that becomes easier and easier for me to hear as I am faithful to obey it. Why doesn’t God just speak from the clouds or something?
