What is the average age for a budgie to die?
Wild budgie: budgies in the wild will usually die naturally at 4 – 6 years of age. Budgie in captivity: when a pet budgerigar is well taken care of, their average lifespan is 5 – 8 years. However, if they are particularly fortunate, it is possible for a pet budgie to live up to 15 or even 20 years in rare cases.
How do I know if my budgie has a disease?
Sick budgies can go downhill very quickly so if you spot any of these symptoms get to your vet straight away:
- Watery droppings.
- Fluffed up feathers.
- Lack of energy/sleeping more than usual.
- Loss of appetite.
- Drinking much more or less than normal.
- Unusual swellings.
- Loss of feathers.
- Limping or holding one leg up.

If your budgie is dying you may notice some of these signs:
- The bird is sitting on the bottom of their cage,
- open mouth breathing,
- heavily breathing,
- vomiting, or.
- head drooping.
How do you cheer up a sad budgie?
Toys are an excellent way to keep your budgie active and having fun throughout. They give physical and mental stimulation- good for the budgie’s health.
