HOw good should a 6 month piano be?
If you can already play songs hands together it’ll take you about 4 months to get good at playing piano by ear. If you’re a complete beginner and you’ve never played a song hands together before, it’ll take you about 6 months because you’ll need to learn some other skills first.
HOw good can you get at piano in a year?
One year. You can expect to reach beginner level after around a year. This would correlate roughly to Grade 1 or 2 level (ABRSM.) Expect to play very basic pieces and have a reasonable grasp of learning from sheet music, playing basic one-octave scales, etc.

How long does it take to learn piano at different levels?
Not only that, there may be technical challenges in the piece that you are not fully prepared for. In general, piano students can reach Level 1 after a year of dedicated study, Level 2 after two years, and so forth, but this is only a rough guideline. What grades should I give my Child for piano exams?
Far better to put the money towards more sheet music or activities. Grades 1, 3, 5 and 8 is a fairly sensible amount, perhaps only 5 and 8 for some pupils. I think it depends on the child. I took practically all the grades, but I have always had excellent sightreading skills so it’s not like we only ever played the exam pieces.
How many years did it take you to become a pianist?
Grade 8 (m) at 14, so averaged a bit under a year per grade. However most of the people who started with me (I’m a school music service kid) only made it to grade 5 by that point. Piano, started at 11, grade 8 (d) at 17, so six years. I took them all except grade 2.
