The manga is originally how the Banana Fish story was meant to be told, I would recommend reading it and watching the anime later. The art in the manga is great and its a shame we don’t get to see some iconic scenes due the anime being restricted with its 24 episode run time.

Both have a similar taste and tone to the mafia/gangster and both take place in the same American-like setting. If you’re looking to fill the gap of 91 Days Left, Banana Fish can do the job.

The manga broke genre barriers over thirty-years ago and while the anime regrettably does not retain all the qualities that made the manga as groundbreaking as it was, it does deliver its own one of a kind experience with much of the same heart. There really is no other anime like Banana Fish.
