Is it okay to fail year 11?
Yes, but it’s uncommon. Usually students would choose to do Year 11 again at a different school. Failing Year 11 is difficult unless you repeatedly make little/no effort in your subjects.

The main reason why I eventually decided to select two Unit 3/4 subjects in Year 11 is simply because it helps to reduce your workload in Year 12. In some schools, they have a requirement of completing at least six subjects for VCE to help maximise your ATAR.

Neglecting something that directly contributes to your ATAR score is a bad idea, and could end in disaster if it is the reason you don’t reach the cut-off for the university course of your choice. Plain and simple, you may not be ready for the subject matter of a 3/4 class.
