Can someone with DID only have 1 alter?
Yes, this is perfectly possible. While the average number of alters in a system is around 15, some systems are made up of only 2 alters in total (—this could be the host and one alter who only comes up occasionally, or two alters who share the mind equally).
Can you speak alters?
Alters also vary in age. You wouldn’t talk to a child the same way you would talk to an adult. In that same way, you shouldn’t talk to a child alter in the same way you would an older alter. For younger child alters, focus on making them feel safe and secure, and try to soothe them as you would any child.
Can you have mild DID?
This is a normal process that everyone has experienced. Examples of mild, common dissociation include daydreaming, highway hypnosis or “getting lost” in a book or movie, all of which involve “losing touch” with awareness of one’s immediate surroundings.
What is the difference between a host and child?

What is the difference between a core and host?
Not all systems have a part that could be identified as a core. Host: The host is the alter who most commonly uses the body. Host alters collectively fall under the category of fronters, or alters who frequently “front” by taking control of the body and the front, conscious part of the mind.
Why do hosts come out on ‘Survivor’?
Sometimes, they can come out to keep the hosts from disclosing an abuser or punish a child alter for telling somebody about the abuse. They are often described as “misguided protectors” because they want to keep the host from reliving what they have gone through. 10.
What is the difference between a protector and host?
This may or may not be correct. According to the theory of structural dissociation, all hosts are apparently normal parts. Protector: Protectors are alters who protect the body, system, host, core, or other specific alters or groups of alters.
