Can you apply to MIT at 14?

Can I apply to MIT at 16?

We don’t have any age limits or restrictions. If you’ve been away from high school for a while, we would expect to see the results of your standardized tests, Secondary School Report, evaluations from teachers/employers and other supportive materials that would assist us in getting to know you.

What are the minimum requirements to get into MIT?

To have the best shot of getting in, you should aim for the 75th percentile, with a 1570 SAT or a 36 ACT. You should also have a 4.17 GPA or higher. If your GPA is lower than this, you need to compensate with a higher SAT/ACT score.

Can a 15 year old go to MIT?

Each year, a handful of “underage” teenagers are among MIT’s incoming students. The university takes no initiative to court them, but anywhere from one to five, ranging in age from 14 to 16, join the MIT community annually.

Can homeschooled students go to MIT?

MIT has a long history of admitting homeschooled students, and these students are successful and vibrant members of our community. Homeschooled students come from urban, rural, and suburban neighborhoods. Some have been granted a formal high school diploma, while others have not.

What is MIT doing to encourage young people to apply?

Most importantly, we try to encourage young people to be students and community members first, and applicants second. The first-year application is now available in the MIT application portal. The transfer application is closed. Please check back at the end of August for updates.

What is it like to work at MIT?

Many of the problem sets (our affectionate term for homework) at MIT are designed to be worked on in groups, and cross-department labs are very common. MIT is known for its interdisciplinary research. If you enjoy working alone all the time, that’s completely valid, but you might not be particularly happy at MIT.

Does MIT have tours for graduate applicants?

No. MIT Graduate Admissions does not offer a dedicated tour or information sessions. Graduate applicants interested in visiting should contact the department or program of interest directly to see if arrangements can be made. Can I visit MIT? Yes.
