Do planes have keys like cars?
Small planes (like the little Cessna in How Airplanes Work) have locks on the doors and ignition keys inside to start the engine. They are pretty much like a car in this respect. Commercial jets, on the other hand, have no locks on the doors and no ignition key of any sort.
Are there keys to planes?
Military aircraft and airliners do not have keys, as armed guards and TSA agents serve sufficient purpose to that effect. Almost all small civilian aircraft require a key to open the door, and some of them require the turning of a key to start the engine.

However, in lower models of aircrafts such as Cessna 172P, which are more like Private aircrafts are locked using keys and do not require them for starting their engines. How do airplanes start?
This starting process normally uses an electric motor to spin the main turbine shaft. The electric motor spins the main shaft until there is enough air blowing through the compressor and the combustion chamber to light the engine. Fuel starts flowing and an igniter similar to a spark plug ignites the fuel.
Do private planes have keys?
Private jets have keys, though they are mainly used just for safety purposes – i.e. locking the door and external compartments. Flying a private jet isn’t as simple as turning an ignition key, firing up the engine, and then you get going.

How does a jet turn?
Turning the control wheel clockwise raises the right aileron and lowers the left aileron, which rolls the aircraft to the right. The rudder works to control the yaw of the plane. The pilot moves rudder left and right, with left and right pedals. Used together, the rudder and the ailerons are used to turn the plane.
