Does everyone who applies to MIT get an interview?

Interviews are not a required part of the MIT application. While we try to offer as many interviews as we can, we have limited availability and may not able to offer interviews to all applicants.

How many times can you apply to MIT?

Yes, applicants may apply to more than one department, so long as they meet all of the application requirements, pay the required application fees, and submit separate applications by the required deadline.

Do MIT interviews matter?

If you apply to MIT, you should interview. A strong interview definitely helps your chances of being admitted. An average or bad interview does not help, but is not likely in itself to crush your application. There have unquestionably been students admitted to MIT whose interviews did not go well.

When to apply Most U.S. students apply to MIT at the beginning of their final year of high school, and international applicants should do the same. Only accepted students are required to send final grades, and we understand that they will not be available until the summer months.

Think through stories or examples that will give your interviewer a vivid sense of your passions and aspirations. MIT interviews are not usually formal affairs. You do not have to dress up for your interview. Finally, as is true for all parts of our application process, just be yourself!
