On October 9, 1995, the Amtrak Sunset Limited passenger train derailed in the Arizona desert over 50 miles from Phoenix. Nearly 100 passengers were injured and one Amtrak employee was killed. The train never reached its destination: It was sabotaged, derailed in the Arizona desert.
