How to prepare for the Navy boot camp fitness test
- Give yourself time. Give yourself enough time to prepare for the test, at least six to eight weeks.

How fit should I be before joining the Navy?
The minimum requirements are:
- 500-yard swim: The maximum time allowed is 13 minutes.
- Push-ups: You must complete at least 50 push-ups in two minutes.
- Sit-ups: You must complete at least 50 sit-ups in two minutes.
- Pull-ups: You must complete at least six pull-ups without touching the ground or letting go of the bar.
Navy SEAL training starts with two months of physical training. You will run at least 4 miles on most days, and you may run as many as 10 miles during some runs. It lasts for seven weeks, and each class is expected to do more running each week of training.
What happens if you fail Navy boot camp?
Navy recruits who fail to meet the requirement will have 48 hours to retest. If they fail a second time, they will be sent home. They may be able to reapply with a waiver from Navy Recruiting Command.
Additionally, you won’t have access to caffeine, protein shakes, etc. before exercising in boot camp. Try to wean yourself off of these luxuries long before leaving for Navy boot camp. Is recrecruit Training Command reopening boot camp graduation?
Recruit Training Command will re-open boot camp graduation, or the Pass-In-Review ceremony, for a limited number of family members and guests beginning with graduation ceremonies August 13. Each recruit can invite two guests(max, no exceptions) to attend in person. (Children 2 & under do not count toward the guest limit.)
Why is Marine boot camp so difficult?
Marine boot camp is so challenging because the goal is to prepare you to pass your Physical Fitness Test (PFT) closer to the end of Boot Camp. The PFT is what helps determine what occupation you qualify for and keeps you combat-ready. To ensure you are ready for Marine boot camp, you must have the endurance to run without sacrificing speed.

Do yourself a favor and let everyone who is important in your life know you’re leaving for Navy boot camp. Not only can they send letters of encouragement at basic training, but they will know you haven’t simply dropped off the face of the earth.
