You work on average 10-12 hours on watch and when you’re not on watch you could work a regular 8 hour day.

What is it like living on a Navy base?

Base living tends to be pretty safe, since bases are gated and guarded at all hours. Parents often feel safe letting their kids walk to the neighbors’ house or to the playground. Adults sit on their porches at night, and have barbecues on the weekends, and you don’t have to worry if you forget to lock your car.

Do you get your phone in the Navy?

There are no cell phones allowed in Basic Training. The Navy has their trainees place cell phones into a bag with their clothes and personal belongings, then the whole bag is shipped home to their family. Army recruits keep their phones shut off and in a locker.

Do you get the weekend off in the Navy?

No unless on shore duty. Next to no days off while out to sea.

Can my boyfriend live on-base with me?

As long as you are still married, to give up BAH, you would have to reside in on-base family housing. However, unless your dependents move to your duty location, you are not authorized to reside in on-base family housing, because the rules say to qualify, your dependents must be living with you.

Can you get laid in the Navy?

It’s prohibited but, people do it anyway. There are approx. 250 people on board, many young men and women who at one point or another will develop feelings for each other.
