There are approximately 185 TRACON facilities located throughout the United States. Each of the stations has varying degrees of automation dependent upon the volume of traffic typically handled.

He or she uses radar to monitor the aircraft and must maintain safe distances between ascending aircraft.

Are TRACON and ARTCC maps worth the trouble?
Even if you did get a TRACON or ARTCC map, its more trouble than its worth. A large TRACON sector map is wholly dependent on numerous factors and can change in a blink. Unless you have an intimate understanding of how it works, its all for naught. An ARTCC map meanwhile is about the size of a queen sized bed and frightens us mere mortals.

Previously, The TRACON and Orlando International Tower were combined facilities. The TRACON was commissioned in December 1983 and is currently budgeted to be replaced with a modern facility in 2014 or sooner.
