Yamato would’ve been a tremendous asset in the war, especially when it comes to restricting Tailed Beasts with Wood Release ninjutsu. Unfortunately, he was kidnapped by Kabuto Yakushi which prevented him from fighting in the war.

Madara obtained Hashirama’s cells during his fight with him at the Valley of Death. He then cultivated them. He used those cells to awaken his Rinnegan (Rinnegan requires cells of both the Uchihas and the Senjus).
Why can’t Naruto use wood release?
Hashirama was only able to use wood release because he was the first reincarnation of asura, and being the first reincarnation, the influence of asura’s chakra on him was the strongest out of all reincarnatons. Thus naruto couldn’t use Wood Release naturally.
