Why did Achilles need new armor?
Because Achilles was not invulnerable in the Iliad. The myth that he could only be injured by being hit in the heel did not appear in ancient Greek mythology and first appeared in Roman myth. Because of this, Achilles, like any other warrior, would need armour to protect himself from attack.
